Hello! I’m Eng. John N. Waweru

I started out my career in Telecommunications  at the defunct Kenya Posts and Telecommunications Corporation (KP&TC) in 1976 after graduating with a B.Sc in Electrical Engineering from the University of Nairobi. I have since gained extensive experience in the telecommunications sector, spanning close to 40 years and I further have interests in several local companies in the ICT sector.

I am a past chair of the Telecommunication Dealers Association of Kenya (TDAK), as well as a Rotarian, a registered Engineer and a member of the Institute of Engineers of Kenya, as well as the Insitute of Directors of Kenya (IOD-K), which is a membership organization of practicing and aspiring Directors, drawn from both private and the public sectors of our economy.

I currently devote most of my time on consultancy work in the field of mergers and acquisitions in emerging markets, but welcome, to read more about what I have done over the years.

Equitel(a subsidiary of Equity Bank), as an MVNO, facilitates the linking of a customer’s bank account to a mobile number. Banking becomes truly mobile as funds can be transferred or received from the bank account.

It is responsible for facilitating the development of the information and communication sector, including: broadcasting, multimedia, telecommunication, electronic commerce, postal and couries services.

This was then a state-owned fixed telecommunications utility. Before being its Managing Director, I had served as a member of the same Board for 3 years. TKL was then the sole provider of landline phone services. The company operated and maintained the infrastructure over which Kenya’s various internet service providers used.
